Free Movies Under the Stars

The Chincoteague Cultural Alliance announces its second annual Summer Cinema Series, outdoors and on the big screen. Movies will be shown on alternate Thursday evenings at 9:00 PM beginning June 24 and ending August 19 in the downtown waterfront Robert Reed Park.  Bring your lawn chairs and blankets for an entertaining evening with family and friends.  Enjoy old-time refreshments at old-fashioned prices with proceeds going to our high school scholarship fund.

On June 24 the Series kicks off with “The Gods Must Be Crazy” a comic allegory about a traveling bushman from the Kalahari who encounters modern civilization through a Coke bottle.

July 8 features “Babe” about a pig who wants to be a sheep dog in this Academy Award-winning Australian tale for all ages.

July 22 presents “Riding Giants”, a rollicking guide to the origins of surfing and its rebellious and passionate aficionados.

August 5 brings “The Sting”, classic Redford and Newman staging a complicated con on a big-time crime boss.

On August 19 the Series closes with Alfred Hitchcock’s thriller “To Catch A Thief” pitting former cat burglar Cary Grant and spoiled socialite Grace Kelly against the perpetrator of a new wave of jewel thefts.

The Chincoteague Cultural Alliance is a non-profit organization formed to enhance community life through arts and culture.  The Summer Cinema Series is supported by grants from the Town of Chincoteague, Virginia Commission for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, and local sponsors including Island Motor Inn and Assateague Island Surf Station.
