Roadside Cafe on Saturday, April 18 at The Chincoteague Center along with Mark Templeton & Pocket Change

Roadside Cafe  (RSC) began as a group of tenured musicians in search of an outlet for the energetic tones of the Bluegrass Music they fell in love with 25 years ago. During a few powerful jam sessions, they discovered that the music had a  ‘flow’ about it. The harmonies were tight and the instrumentation fell naturally into place. It became apparent that music of this caliber would be well received by today’s bluegrass audiences. The resulting excitement drove all four musicians to depart from established regional bands and form Roadside Cafe. They offer a delicious blend of contemporary bluegrass, traditional classics and original material. Featuring hard driving instrumentation and various vocal harmony structures, the band provides a vast repertoire that is appealing to a wide audience.

RSC consist of four veterans of the regional (mid Atlantic) bluegrass circuit, Brian Brewer (guitar), Mike Maltby (Bass), David  Robertson (Mandolin) and Ken Windbeck (Banjo). The talent  and experience of this configuration lends itself to an energetic and entertaining stage show.

Joining RC for the show will be “Mark Templeton & Pocket Change” . This will be their first appearance at The Center. Mark and his band play a variety of “hard driving”Bluegrass & gospel bluegrass music. The band’s repertoire consist of traditional bluegrass, original ballads, energized instrumentals  old time gospel and some original comical tunes. With their own arrangements, they insert a “punch” and “drive into bluegrass music that is enthusing audiences of all ages.

Mark has been performing professionally since 1969. 22 albums later he has the best backup band of his career. They are Jackie Cooper on mandolin & vocals, Ralph Clay on upright bass & vocals and Glenn Ashwell on Guitar, dobro & vocals. This Highpoint NC band will surely please everyone with their great show.  Door prizes will be given away at intermission.
