December 2007 Chincoteague Bridge Project Update
The Chincoteague Bridge project is well underway with lots of new construction visible. The concrete bridge pile tests were successful and the actual bridge piles are being constructed by project’s contractor, American Bridge. In addition, four of the six massive transmission line poles have been installed in preparation for relocating power lines.
Environmental protection restrictions have now been lifted until April 2008, allowing work to proceed at the transition zone between the existing causeway and the new bridge.
Virginia Department of Transportation advisories state that “When traveling, remember that short duration alternating lane closures are scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Route 175 east and west bound to the Main Street intersection in Accomac through late January to allow crews to mobilize for relocation of electrical transmission lines.”
