Chincoteague Pony Round Up Photos
One of the most popular events associated with the Chincoteague Pony Penning is the annual roundup on Assateague Island. On the weekend prior the Pony Swim, "Saltwater Cowboys" begin rounding up about 150 wild ponies that live on the island.
Ponies from the southern end of Assateague Island are rounded up and herded directly into the southern corral. The larger northern herd is corralled temporarily before being led down the beach to the main corral.
