The Chincoteague Island Virginia Oyster Festival is a popular annual event, held each year in October. The festival, created by the chamber of commerce, features Chincoteague Island's famous oysters. The event promotes the oyster season, which includes the cooler months of the year. Food served includes oysters prepared in a variety of ways, clam fritters, hot dogs, hush puppies, potato salad, cole slaw, desserts and drinks.
