The Chincoteague Island Virginia Oyster Festival
The Chincoteague Island Virginia Oyster Festival is a popular annual event, held each year in October. The festival, created by the chamber of commerce, features Chincoteague Island's famous oysters. The event promotes the oyster season, which includes the cooler months of fall, winter and spring. The popularity of the event may require obtaining tickets well in advance as the festival often sells out.
Food served includes oysters prepared in a variety of ways, clam fritters, hot dogs, hush puppies, potato salad, cole slaw, desserts and drinks.
Attractions at the event include a live band, apparel sales, raffles and beer vendors. A decoy show and craft show are also held in conjunction with the festival.
The Oyster Festival is held at Maddox Family Campground, on Maddox Blvd in Chincoteague, Virginia.
